Helptoberfest 2020

Back in late September of 2013 I was having a crappy day when I received an email that lifted my spirits. Someone that I know took a minute of their time to do something that probably would seem small and trivial to most, but could result in a positive outcome. It got me thing about an article that an old high school friend had recently wrote; “Stand Up For Something, Staying Good At Life”. The major part of the article is “Assistance comes in many forms. Volunteer in your community. Help by giving someone a good referral. Put in a good word for someone. Hold open a door for someone. Make a donation. Be active in your community. Smile at someone.” So I came up with this idea for the month, Helptoberfest and for the month of October I posted about different charities, events and inspirational quotes.

I skipped the last two years for whatever reasons, but this year I’m back, and for the month of October I will donate 10% of sales to charities and organizations that are environmentally and/or outdoor focused. I’ll donate to four different groups, one will be highlighted for a seven day or so period. If you are involved with or know of one that you would like to see featured let me know. Aina is a very small business, it won’t be a lot of coin, but every bit helps.

Hopefully this reminds you to “Stay Good At Life”.

How To Go To The Bathroom Outdoors

Just as a bear poops in the woods, so may you need to.

As many public restrooms in outdoor areas remain closed, or you're hiking or backpacking it is important that you’re prepared to go to the bathroom to ensure your comfort and safety, and to minimize your impacts as much as possible. Here are some tips so that you’re prepared when the time strikes:

1. Make your own poop kit- pack a small bag with all the essentials so that you’re always prepared to go the bathroom outside- a trowel for digging a cathole where regulations allow, tp when you need it, a bag to pack out used tp, hand sanitizer and a way to pack out your waste where regulations require, such as a biffy bag.

2. When pooping or peeing, go 200 feet- about 70 big steps away from water, trails and camp. Choose an inconspicuous site that other people will be unlikely to go.

3. Pee on surfaces such as rocks, pine needles and gravel- places without plants that won't be damaged by wildlife who dig for salts and minerals found in urine, and pack tp out. For solid waste, use a trowel to dig catholes 6-8 inches deep.

4. Bury solid waste in catholes where regulations allow, and pack tp out. Cover the area back up to make it look as if you were never there, and always use your hand sanitizer!

Small Business Relief Fund: Aina Clothing

Small Business Relief Fund: Aina Clothing

This really isn't my thing to ask for assistance like this, but with all my events being cancelled for the foreseeable future, I wasn't sure what else to do.

I am launching a GoFundMe campaign as a response to the Small Business Relief Initiative. Sponsored by GoFundMe, Yelp, and Intuit QuickBooks, the Initiative will issue $500 matching grants to qualifying businesses that raise at least $500 on GoFundMe. Thanks to this initiative, even small contributions to Aina Clothing through GoFundMe will make a big impact!

If you can't donate, please consider supporting in other ways, such as subscribing for newsletters, following social media, giving a share or making a purchase.

Thank you for your time and support, and please stay safe and healthy.
